Radio Free Newport and I have been discussing a new soc prof gathering at ASA… I just read the last sentenceĀ and think I should clarify…Not a “fans of new soc prof’s blog” gathering (because my Mom would be the only one to attend and even she would think it was lame), but a gathering of those who are new soc profs.
Dave thinks that the blogger/new soc prof sample is probably less than 5 but we think the blog reader+writer new soc prof pool may be larger (20 maybe?). Any interest? I realize it’s early but with all the discussion on scatterplot of ribbons, sashes, and the like, it got me to thinking…
How ‘new’ do you have to be?
Sounds good to me as along as there are no ribbons or sashes involved.
Jlena, how new do you feel? (That would sound cool if I had a Frampton Comes Alive talkbox.)
I dunno — we only discussed it briefly. The idea was to gather those of us who are going through (roughly) the same things, some of which we’ve bantered about in the comments of our blogs.
Newsocprof?
I’m all about inclusivity (inclusiveness?)… I think including those that have a few years under their belt would be good too.
No ribbons or sashes.
i’ll be there if i’m not in the field. that means there are at least 5 of us!
Do you attend the American Society of Criminology Meetings? If so, it might be fun to have a young blogger meeting there as well.
funny you should ask… i’m working on my asc submission right now. yes, i attend asc pretty much every year too.
it would be fun, we should post on it collectively as November gets closer.
I have to keep reminding myself about ASC. Yikes. Need to get crackin’.
I did not submit for ASA (good on me, from what it sounds, given the submission nuttiness), and I still need to figure out some things with my schedule around then, but I would of course be up for it if I attend. If not, I should be able to make an ASC thang.
cool, so it looks like there is interest for ASA and ASC… I’ll make a plug when it gets closer and we all know what days we’ll be in each place.
And, ktel, I’ll be bringing up the rear at ASA, having been banished to the roundtables… I’ll forgo complaining about the submission system here but hopefully this improves at ASC!
